Backbones gives us structure and support, allowing us to freely move at will and stand firm with confidence. Without a spine you could not grow, endure, or persevere. Living by faith can be said to be the backbone of every Christian life. Hebrews 10:35-39 tells us Christians are not spineless but “have faith and preserve their souls.” Hebrews 11:1-2 describes this backbone as “assurance” of hope and “conviction” of the not yet fully grasped. Throughout the chapter we learn that our faith in the present is strengthened by remembering God’s faithfulness in the past and focusing on His promises. There are, by some counts, over 8,000 promises in the Bible. Since there are 34 vertebras in the human spine, consider these 34 faith strengthening promises for Christians that can only find fulfillment in Christ.
