The devil has one goal: to take you to Hell with him.
1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” The devil uses temptations to pull us away from God, and at times, they seem overwhelming. Let’s look at a man who resisted, even in the hardest circumstances.
Joseph endured a difficult life. His father’s favoritism caused his brothers to hate him. Their jealousy led them to throw him into a pit, intending to kill him, but instead, they sold him into slavery. He ended up serving in an Egyptian household, where sin tried to overtake him. Genesis 39:7 states, “And it came to pass after these things that his master’s wife cast longing eyes on Joseph, and she said, ‘Lie with me.’”
At this moment, Joseph had every reason to give in. He could have justified it by thinking, “After all I’ve been through, I deserve this.” But instead, he responded, “How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:9).
Joseph remained faithful, even when life was unfair. His example teaches us to stand firm against temptation, no matter the cost.
God promises that we can overcome sin through Him: “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13).
Let us take our walk with God seriously, knowing He will be with us through every trial.
